Architecture of Krasnaya Polyana

Published

The architecture of Krasnaya Polyana is very eclectic. Most hotels, restaurants, shopping centers and other large tourist facilities appeared here for the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Among them you can see houses in the style of Alpine chalets, and buildings in neoclassical style with antique arches and balustrades, and buildings built in a modern postmodern manner.

To distinguish in this motley the buildings that will be shown to tourists in the future as architectural monuments of Krasnaya Polyana is now quite difficult: so it can be considered as something like a museum of modern architecture in the open air, where almost all trends are presented.

Of course, against this background there are sports objects erected according to the projects of the best architects of the world. it center of luge, ski-biathlon center "Laura", extreme park and the ski center "Rose-Khutor", and buildings of the Olympic village.

The only historical and architectural monument of Krasnaya Polyana – hunting lodge of Emperor Nicholas II – is now in a dilapidated state, although in 2013 the reconstruction was started.

You can also visit the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint Kharlampy in the north-western part of the resort.
