The Estonian government, investing about $ 1.5 million in advertising for inbound tourism, has increased the number of visitors from Russia. The tourist flow of Russians wishing to travel to Estonia has increased by almost 20% since 2005. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Baltic state, since the beginning of 2006, 54,061 visas have been issued to Russians, whereas in 2005 for the same period it was 46,468. The most visas were issued in St. Petersburg (22,832), Moscow (15,779), Kiev ( 4 025), as well as in Pskov, Helsinki and Ankara.

In total, 260 thousand Russians visited Estonia in 2005 (of which, according to the Union of Travel Industry, 120 thousand are visitors from the Northern Capital), which is 25% more than in 2004. From January 1, 2006, a foreigner who can enter Estonia as a tourist can be issued a one-time short-term visa for up to 5 days without an invitation. Because of this, the number of individual tourists increased, which accounted for 12% of all guests in the first 3 months of 2006. This is reported by "Business Petersburg" with reference to Postimees.

In comparison with Finland and Leningrad region, Estonian resorts win by two factors: hotel staff in Estonia is more polite, and accommodation is cheaper by an average of $ 5 per day. However, in the near future visas to Estonia will rise in price. After the accession of this country to the Schengen Agreement, the authorization for one trip will cost 35 euros instead of the current 25. In addition, the prices in hotels in Tallinn have already grown. According to experts, the prices are set in accordance with the Finnish market, but this, as it turned out, does not meet the expectations of guests – including just from Finland. The result was that the number of Western tourists coming to Tallinn is steadily declining, reports DELFI. So, the number of Finnish tourists who visited Tallinn last year has already decreased by 11%.

Against this background, the growth of the tourist flow from Russia is impressive. This affected the negotiations of the Ministers of Transport of Russia and Estonia, Igor Levitin and Edgar Savisaar. Last Friday, July 21, the ministers formed a working group, which by the end of 2006 should develop a timetable for the construction of a new motor transport bridge across the Narva River. In total, according to the data of the Ministry of Transport of Russia, in 2005 about 46 thousand passengers were transported by rail to Estonia (annual growth was 8%). Transportation of Prices of airline tickets Rio de Janeiro – Prague by rail from Estonia to Russia has increased by 26% since 2005, and by road transport in the first quarter of 2006 between the two countries was transported by 90% more than in the same period last year.
